How the planner counts

  • Weekends are Saturday and Sunday. A holiday on a weekend gives no extra day, unless the law sets a substitute or observed day.
  • In the list, a bridge takes four days of leave at most: a whole week off is a holiday of its own. The plan can use up to three weeks of leave around a holiday.
  • Leave is only placed in the chosen year. A break can still run into January, around New Year.
  • When two plans give as many days off, the planner keeps the one with fewer days of leave.

Questions

What is a bridge day?
A working day between a public holiday and a weekend. Take it off and the two join into one break: a holiday on a Thursday plus the Friday off gives four days off for one day of leave.
How does the planner pick my days?
It looks at every stretch of days off around the public holidays of the year, and keeps the combination that gives the most days off for the leave you entered, with breaks of up to three weeks of leave. A day next to an ordinary weekend is left out: that one is your call.
Which holidays are counted?
The public holidays of the whole country, with the substitute or observed days set by law in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Japan. In Germany, pick your state to add its own holidays. In Spain, Maundy Thursday counts everywhere but Catalonia and the Valencian Community. Any other day off, a local holiday or a company closure, can be added by hand.
How do I put these days in my calendar?
Download the .ics file: Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar add each day of leave as an all-day event. You can also open the plan in the Kalnext demo, to see it on a year view next to a sample team calendar.
Does this book my leave?
No. The planner shows where leave goes furthest, your employer still approves it. Notice periods, carry-over and company closure days depend on your contract and your country.
